What's new on Les 3 Vallées ski area - Winter 2014/15

As is the case every year, many improvements have been made to the runs and ski lifts of Les 3 Vallées for your safety, comfort....and enjoyment!

I would like to take the opportunity here to give you an overview of what's new on Les 3 Vallées ski area for winter 2014/2015, followed soon by a second article about what's new in Val Thorens.

2 new ski lifts await you In the Courchevel Valley this winter: La Forêt 6-seater detachable bubble lift and the Aiguille du Fruit 6-seater detachable chair lift.

La Forêt 6-seater detachable chair lift

Length: 1,750 metres
Vertical drop: 643 metres
Passenger flow: 2,400 skiers / hour
Investment = 9 Million Euros

To replace the old 4-seater La Forêt gondola lift, that dates back to 1970, with a faster, more comfortable ski lift (higher seats, bubbles) which boasts better transport capacity (2,400 skiers per hour compared with 1,000 before).

To enable «doorstep skiing» on the Le Praz and La Tania sectors to make the most of the forest skiing available.

To offer a fast connection between Courchevel - Le Praz and Courchevel (via the Forêt and Bouc Blanc chair lifts) and Courchevel-Le Praz and Méribel (via the Forêt and Dou des Lanches chair lifts).

Aiguille du Fruit 6-seater detachable chair lift

Length: 1,333 metres
Vertical drop: 412 metres
Passenger flow: 3,300 skiers / hour
Investment = 8 Million Euros

To improve the connection between Courchevel-Moriond and Courchevel with a faster, more comfortable ski lift which boasts a better transport capacity than the 2 previous chair lifts (Gravelles and Aiguille du Fruit).

To limit the number of pylons on the ski area by replacing 2 chair lifts with just one (11 pylons instead of 30).

In terms of ski runs, the Altiport run has been redesigned as an easy blue run and now starts from the top of the new Aiguille du Fruit chair lift. It will maintain ski run continuity and offer greater coherence to skiers.

The quality of the snow cover on the connection between Courchevel-Moriond and Courchevel has also been improved by the installation of 8 new snowmaking machines.

Finally, a safe but ungroomed area has been created on the Courchevel-Moriond sector. Known as «Liberty Ride du Tétras», it will be widely accessible (red level run), inviting users to discover new sensations.

This season, the resort of Méribel-Mottaret has redesigned the Boulevard du Hameau run. This blue run offers return access to Méribel-Mottaret along a downhill run that avoids the flat section that can be less user-friendly.

The Mont de la Challe emergency services chalet has been refurbished to improve the welcome of visitors and the quality of first aid treatment that can be provided in a suitable quiet area.

Finally, embellishment works on the snow front will be carried out this year and next.

With regards the ski lifts in Méribel, the most signifcant change is that of the Rocher de la Loze 4 fixed chair lift which has now become a 4-seater detachable chair lift. Now known as the Loze Express, this chair lift will faster and more comfortable.

Alongside these chair lift transformation works, the Saulire Express gondola lift will be increasing its passenger flow from 2,400 to 2,800 people/hr by adding 18 additional cabins.

Also new for the 2014/15 season on Méribel's ski area is the creation of a second run following the same concept as the Vertical Experience, which can be found at the top of the Saulire Express gondola lift. The idea is to provide a safe but ungroomed ski run for very good skiers. It will be located on the Vallon de Côte Brune (black run), over a length of 1,000 metres with a vertical drop of 400 metres.

I'd like to round this article off with Les Menuires, in the Belleville Valley, where a new blue run, Le Bouquetin is yours to discover on the sector known as La Masse.

Finally, artificial snow making works on the stadium, as well as on the «Menuires» blue run will be carried out to ensure optimum snow cover throughout the season.

See you soon for a round-up of what's new on the Val Thorens / Orelle ski area.
