Val Thorens at the Olympics !

Val Thorens at the Olympics !

2018, the year of Olympic spirit. It's hardly a secret that the twenty-second edition of this global sporting event starts on the 9th of February! 17 days of top level competition during which French sportsmen and sportswomen will be flying the flag for France! The number of medals France expects to win has never been as high as it is this year. According to the latest forecasts, no fewer than 23 medals await us!

The resort is putting all its support behind the four athletes from Val Thorens taking part in the Games. Here's a short presentation about our champions:

Jean-Frédéric Chapuis known as "Jean-Fred" is a medal-winning machine! World Champion titles and a gold medal at the Winter Olympics are among his past Ski Cross achievements. He's even won the prestigious Crystal Globe for three years in a row.

Be there on Wednesday the 21st of February at 5.15am for the first leg of the Men's Ski Cross in the 2018 Olympic Games!

Chloé Trespeusch  known as "Cloclo", is a real discovery from whom we only expect the best. A member of the Val Thorens Sports Club since she was little, she's the baby of the resort. At just 16 years of age, she won the snowboard cross European Championship. Three years later, our Chloe took her first Olympic podium position by coming third in the Snowboard Cross final, winning her a bronze medal.
To support Cloclo and see her shine once again, make sure you're awake at 4.15am on Friday the 16th of February!

Adrien Théaux, our third local athlete, came to Val Thorens in 1997. He has a clear, precise goal: winning an Olympic medal! He told us that this year he's taking a new approach to the games. Adrien has trained for two Alpine Skiing events; the Downhill and the Super-G, which will be respectively shown on television on Sunday the 11th of February at 3.00am and on Thursday the 15th of February, also at 3.00am.

Lou Barin, born in 1999, is a champion in the making. Too young to take part in the previous Winter Olympics, she won silver for Slopestyle at the Youth Olympic Games. With her skis on, Lou performs an artistic discipline that involves carrying out a series of highly impressive jumps. We wish her the very best luck in qualifying for the Olympic Games in Pyeongchang.

We hope to see her on the starting line on Friday the 16th of February at midday!

Did you know that Val Thorens is a breeding ground for champions?

Remember Marielle Goitschel… To recap, everybody's favourite female Val Thorens athlete won 3 Olympic medals, 7 gold medals in Alpine skiing at the World Championships and a good few Crystal Globes (3 to be exact). In addition, the titles won by her sister Christine sit alongside that impressive track record!

 "Faster, Higher, Stronger"

Our fingers are crossed that the athletes belonging to the highest altitude resort in Europe follow in the tracks of their predecessors and ascend to the highest step of the podium at this year's Winter Olympics!
