It swings in Val Tho!
There’s more to the mountaintops than just snowsports! In Val Thorens, after a day spent on the slopes admiring some of the Alps’ most beautiful landscapes, take time out to swing to the rhythm of one of the Kings of American music: Duke Ellington.
He went down in history as one of the founding fathers of jazz, having a huge impact on American music. From the days when he got all of New York up onto their feet in the Cotton Club as bandleader of an inimitable jazz ensemble, to the 1960’s when he became a living legend, he remained a role model for jazz musicians. With hundreds of melodies, he provided an endless source of musical themes: more than just one of the all-time jazz greats, he was a musical heavyweight!
Whether you’re a jazz fan or just a music lover, you’ll be in your element with Lionel Grivet on the drums, André Wentzo on double bass, Franck Pilandon on the tenor saxophone and Jérémy Bruger on piano. The setting for the concert is Val Thorens’ church, which is not really that surprising seeing as this music has its roots in the hymns of the black American community. For this homage to Ellington with the sounds of today, this quartet have come up with a programme comprising some of the «Duke’s» greatest melodies: ‘’Take the A train’’, ‘’Caravan’’, ‘’The C jam blues’’…as well as many others to relive the jazz legend.
Don't miss this free concert Tuesday 10th March 2015 : Thrills, colour and rhythm await!
