How do you recharge your batteries over the Christmas break?

How do you recharge your batteries over the Christmas break?

It’s Christmas at last! Time to press pause!
The festive period is the perfect time to have a rest (even if you are going to be dashing around visiting relatives before getting stuck into the Christmas and New Year preparations). It’s time to press pause, recharge your batteries and start the New Year off on the right foot.

We’ve come up with 10 top tips that will help you recharge your batteries between Father Christmas coming down the chimney and the New Year’s Eve fireworks:

Top tip n°1: Stroll through the markets.

Turkey, exotic fruit, dates, seafood, game…
At Christmas and New Year the market stalls are overflowing with a wide variety of mouth-watering food. If you’re not sure what type of fish it is, ask the friendly market stall holder!

Top tip n°2: Manage your time… switch into airplane mode.

How about putting your phone onto airplane mode from 6pm? Make the most of the here and now without being disturbed by the latest “news” proffered up by your app.
As we often say, “technology’s not the problem, it’s the way we use it that’s the problem”.

Top tip n°3: Go for a walk to inspire you.

It’s 7pm. How do you fancy a walk through your local streets to admire the Christmas lights? Which ones are new this year? An angel on the lamppost, a star above the Council offices, a Christmas tree in front of the school?
Don’t forget your hat and gloves!

Top tip n°4: Have a clean up!

Are you sure that the 564 friends you have on your social networks really deserve all your attention? Make the most of this time to be more selective when it comes to your community of friends.

Top tip n°5: Oh Christmas tree

Exhausted from all the last minute Christmas shopping? Sit back in your favourite armchair or between two cushions on the sofa, dim the lights and admire your Christmas tree. Take 15 minutes to gaze at the baubles, cherubs and other decorations. And most importantly, let your imagination run wild.

Top tip n°6: Get back in touch.

This year has been long and full-on. Did you forget someone’s birthday or turn down an invitation at the last minute? If so, it’s time to pick up the phone and call 5 people who are dear to you.

Top tip n°7: 5 achievements of the day.

Before you go to bed in the evening, take a notepad and go over all the good things that happened in the day. From the smiling face of the little boy who you let cross in front of you in the road, to the text message from your cousin overseas; write it all down. You will sleep a lot better.

Top tip n°8: Count the snowflakes.

It’s snowing! Once you’ve put the cardboard on your windscreen and your gloves next to the shovel, take a little time to watch the snowflakes flutter; there’s nothing more soothing...
Did you know that no two snowflakes are the same?

Top tip n°9: Lift your soul.

Is there a Christmas concert being held locally? Travel back in time to your childhood; you’ll feel revitalised! Who knows, this musical interlude might well be followed by tea and biscuits organised by the town’s multi-cultural association - the perfect opportunity to try new tastes and flavours. How about taking time to believe in Father Christmas again?

Top tip n°10: Put it in writing

This year, instead of sending texts and emails, why don’t you write your festive wishes down on a nice card and send them by post? Your family, friends and loved ones will be thrilled!

Let us know how you plan to recharge your batteries.
Until then, we’d like to wish you a wonderful Christmas and New Year. Take care of yourself!
